Meissl & Schadn revives the grandeur of pre-war Viennese dining with a singular focus: the art of the Wiener schnitzel. Named after a legendary institution lost in the bombings of World War II, the restaurant now lives on in a beautifully restored space just off the Ringstrasse, bringing back the spirit of old Vienna with pride and polish.
The menu is a celebration of classic Austrian fare—veal schnitzel pounded to translucence and fried to a perfect golden crisp, tafelspitz with traditional garnishes, Kaiserschmarrn flambéed tableside. Every detail, from the copper pans to the breadcrumb mix, is executed with reverence and intention.
With its white tablecloths, wood-panelled interiors, and glowing chandeliers, the atmosphere is elegant but never stiff. Service is brisk yet charming, and the in-house schnitzel “show kitchen” adds a theatrical touch to an otherwise deeply traditional experience.
This is not a reinvention—it’s a respectful return to form, and one of the city’s most reliable places to taste Austria’s culinary heritage at its best.
